Setting up Raspberry Pi with laptop
I've managed to set the raspberry pi up so that it's connected to my router via a lan cable so it can get the internet, then I've connected my laptop to the router so I can control and see everything that the raspberry pi is doing.
I used Putty for the connection set up and used Xming for seeing the display.
When you start up the raspberry Pi and see login page, you need to use startlxde to get to the operating system when going through the laptop. Without the laptop you just use startx
to change pi ip address - sudo ifconfig eth0 169.254.0.2lxde

A post I made when having problems getting the ip address to stay to what I wanted it to be, also the gateway which was stopping me from accessing the internet.
